Karva Chauth : MANMAT

Karva-Chauth Not For SIKHS.....................

The embracing of the customs like Karva Chauth(fasting)  and any type of other such Rituals are strongly & clearly condemned in Sikhism………….
These useless rituals have been reviled by our GURUS but Today’s SIKHS are very happily entering into such superstitious rituals. Thus, becoming MANMATS.

This is completely illogical to worship moon for long life of one's spouce.

Kabir Ji has clearly written in Guru Granth Sahib Ji –

Chhode Ann Kare Pakhand !! Na Sohagan Na Oh Rand !!    (Ang: 873)

* Kabir Ji Samjhaunde han ki Oh Jeev Istri na suhagvati hai ate na hi Vidhva hai Jehri Vart Rakhdi hai. Eh sabh Pakhand han, Vikhava han.

There are a number of Shabads in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji that teach us not to come under influence of such superstitions as they are nowhere helping and would leave us with more and more ignorance.

“ VARAT KAREH CHANDRAIYNA SE KITAI NA LEKHA'N !! ”   (Ang: 1099)
*They keep Fast but These are of no account……

"KABIR HAR KA SIMRAN CHHAD KAI AHOYEE RAAKHAI NAAR !!
GADHEE HOEY KAI AUTRAI BHAAR SAHAI MANN CHAAR !!"
 ( Ang: 1370)

* Kabir ji sanu samjhaunde han ki Jo Aurtaa'n PARMATMA da SIMRAN chhad ke usnu AKAL PURAKH nu bhul ke VARAT rakhdian ne oh agle janam vich Gadhi(KHOTI) ban ke bhaar hi dhondina ne.

This is all our ignorance that we are going away from the sea of knowledge 'Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji ' and adopting such rubbish in name of customs. No customs/practices of fasting can add to the life provided by the Almighty even a single day.

* Guru Pyari Sadh Sangat Ji, GURMAT Anusar VARAT rakhne Manmat Hai Ji....SIKHI ch VARAT di koi jagah nahi hai ji..…………
Ayo Guru Savariyo Ji, Guru Sahib Ji de ehna Vicharan nu na visaariye  ate Ehna  Brahmanvaad ch na Fase rahiye……….
NAAM hi Sab Sukhan Da KHAZAANA hai, ES NAAM NAL JURHIYE Ji..........

Bhulan Chukan Di Khima Karni Ji.

A TRUE SIKH SPIRIT

In context to the title, a short Sakhi about A TRUE Sikh, BHAI KANHAIYA ji will be more helpful.

Bhai Kanhaiya ji, a devout (devoted) & peace loving Sikh from village Sodhar, Gujranwala.1705 was a time when Anandpur Sahib was invaded by the Mukhal Imperial Army. Bhai Kanhaiya ji was visiting Sri Anandpur Sahib during this time. Many of the soldiers, both friends & foes (enemy) found injured at the battlefield, were served with water by him without making any distinction on either basis.
GURU GOBIND SINGH ji noticed his selfless service & asked him, “Why has he been resuscitating (saving or reviving) all soldiers including that of enemy?
Bhai Kanhaiya ji replied: “O Guru, YOU taught me that The Creator resides in all (saare ik GURU di Jot han, sab de vich GURU vasda hai) & I don’t consider anyone’s religion while serving them.”
Guru Gobind Singh ji was too pleased at his response & honored the true Sikh saying: “You are truly a Holy Man. You have been acting in a True Sikh Spirit.”
Guruji gave him an ointment & asked him to dress their wounds & help them in any way needed in addition to serving water.

This short Story exemplifies well GURU’s teachings:
HE resides in us all!
We all are his JOT!
Selfless Service must be our priority!

                 "Na Ko Bairi Nahin Bigana,
Sagal Sand Ham Ko Ban Aiyee'' (Ang:1299, 14 line)

Shri Guru Ramdaas Sahib

4th NANAK SAHIB SHRI GURU RAMDAAS Ji de Parkash Purab Diaan aap Sabh nu Beant-Beant Wadhayian hon ji

Shri Guru Ramdaas Sahib (1534 to 1581)

                          " ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਗੁਰੁ
                                           ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਤਿਨੈ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ !! "

Guru Ramdas Sahib (Jetha ji) was born at Chuna Mandi, Lahore (in Pakistan), on Kartik Vadi 2nd, (25th Assu) Samvat 1591 (Friday October 9, 1534 ). Son of Mata Daya Kaur ji (Anup Kaur ji) and Baba Hari Das ji Sodhi Khatri was very handsome and promising child. His parents were too poor to meet even the daily needs and he had to earn his bread by selling boiled grams. His parents died when he was just 7 year old. His grandmother (mother's, mother) took him to her native village Basarke. He spent five years at village Basarke earning his bread by selling boiled grams. According to some chronicles, once Guru Amardas Sahib came village Basarke to condole with the grandmother of (Guru) Ramdas Sahib at the death of her son-in-law and developed deep affection for (Guru) Ramdas Sahib. Along with grandmother he left for Goindwal Sahib to settle there. There he resumed his profession of selling boiled grams and also began to take part in the religious congregation held by Guru Amardas Sahib. He also made active participation in the development of Goindwal Sahib.

(Guru) Ramdas Sahib was married to Bibi Bhani Ji (daughter of Guru Amardas Sahib). She bore him three sons: Prithi Chand Ji, Mahadev Ji and Arjan Sahib (Guru) Ji. After the marriage he stayed with his father-in-law and deeply associated himself with the Guru Ghar activities (Sikhism). He commanded full confidence of Guru Amardas Sahib and often accompanied him when the latter went on long missionary tours to different parts of India.

(Guru) Ramdas Sahib was a man of considerable merit. He became famous for his piety, devotion, energy and eloquence. Guru Amardas Sahib found him capable in every respect and worthy of the office of Guruship and installed him as Fourth Nanak on September 1, 1574. Guru Ramdas Sahib laid the foundation stone of Chak Ramdas or Ramdas Pur, which is now called Amritsar. For this purpose he purchased land from the zamindars of the villages: Tung, Gilwali and Gumtala, and began digging of Santokhsar Sarover. Later on he suspended the work on Santokhsar and concentrated his attention on digging Amritsar Sarovar. Bhai Sahlo Ji and Baba Budha Ji, the two devoted Sikhs were assigned the supervising work.

The new city (Chak Ramdas Pur) flourished soon as it was situated at the centre of international trade routes. It grew into an important center of trade in Punjab after Lahore. Guru Ramdas Sahib himself invited many merchants and artisans from the different walks of life and trades. Later on, it proved to be step of far-reaching importance. It provided a common place of worship to the Sikhs and paved the way for the future guidelines for the Sikhism as a different religion. Guru Ramdas Sahib introduced Masand system in place of Manji system and this step played a great role in the consolidation of Sikhism.

Guru Ramdas Sahib strengthened the Sikhism a step further by composing Four Lawans and advised the Sikhs to recite them in order to solemnize the marriages of their children. Thus he introduced a new matrimonial system based upon Sikhism instead of Hindu's Vedi system. Thus this distinct marriage code for the Sikhs separated them from the orthodox and traditional Hindu system. also made rapprochement with different sects of Udasis through Baba Shri Chand Ji. HE, like his predecessors carried forward the tradition of Guru ka Langer. Superstitions, caste system and pilgrimages were strongly decried.

HE wrote 638 hymns in 30 ragas, these include 246 Padei 138 Saloks, 31 Ashtpadis and 8 Vars and are a part of Guru Granth Sahib. He nominated his youngest son (Guru) Arjan Sahib as Fifth Nanak. After this he left Amritsar and retired to Goindwal Sahib. There, after a few days he passed away for heaven on Bhadon Sudi 3rd (2nd Assu) Samvat 1638 (September 1, 1581).

“One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru shall get up early morning and meditate on the Lord’s Name. Make effort regularly to cleanse, bathe & dip in the ambrosial pool. Upon Guru’s instructions, chant Har, Har singing which, all misdeeds, sins and pains shall go away.”

The Misunderstanding Of Durga Pooja

To dispell any notion that Guru Ji in any way worshipped the devi, which is propogated by many with hidden agendas,One must go through the Glimpses Of GURU GOBIND SINGH SAHIB JI ..........

After the battle of Bhangani in 1686 where Guru Ji defeated the forces of the hill rajas under the command of Raja Bhim Chand , Guru ji returned to Anandpur Sahib. Due to the threat of the hill chieftains martial preparations began in earnest - recruitment and training of Sikh solders, building of forts, collection of arms and materials.

Some devious brahmins thought of blackmailing Guru Ji by suggesting that he should go for worship of the goddess Durga in order to invoke her blessings for future battles. After hearing them patiently, "Guru Ji told them that he relied for his protection on Akal Purkh, the Great Time spirit and Primeval Energy" which he also called 'Maha Kal', 'Pritham Bhagauti' and 'Kalka-Chandika' in his writings, but if they could produce that Primeval Energy in any other visible form, then he would consider their request. Gur Ji offered to provide them with the necessary materials and also pay them the money, for which they were actually making the proposal. Their leader, Kashav Das, promised that he would reveal the goddess by reciting the 'Chandi mantra' one lakh times, but Guru Ji would have to put up one lakh ahuti(offerings) and observe complete celibacy. Guru Ji replied that after the birth of his fourth son he had already taken a vow of celibacy and that he would arrange to provide him with what ever materials he needed. It is recorded that Pandit Kashev Das experimented with the sacrificial fire for many months on top of the Naina Devi hill next to Anandpur Sahib. Guru Ji would occasionally climb the hill to watch what was going on. The rest of the time he would spend on the banks of the river Sutlej, writing compositions that can now be found in the Dasam Granth

One day Guru Ji went to see the Pandit and asked him why the goddess had not appeared. Kashav replied that the time was fast approaching but that what was needed was a celebatarian of high caste to be offered as a sacrifice. Guru Ji was amused by this request and promptly told the Pandit that since he had also observed celibacy during this period there would be no better person then him for the sacrifice. Sensing danger he had unwittingly invited, he made his escape in the early hours of the morning.

Guru Ji anticipated the result of Kashev Das' experiment, he thought it futile to be associated with it any longer and dumped the remaining material into the fire and hastened down the hill with a glistening sword in hand and resplendent glory on his face. When in the early hours of the morning the people saw the flames going up in the sky they thought that the goddess had appeared.

Guru Ji associated himself with the ceremony only for the sake of exposing the brahminical faith in such ceremonies and confirming the conviction of the Sikhs to worship the one Timeless Lord .

" Thou, O All Steel Sword are the symbol of Brahma, Vishnu and Bhawani.
Thou represent Ambika, who wears beads of human skulls and is the destroyer of evil spirits.
Thou are the destroyer of the wicked and are the merciful benefactor of the suffering humanity.
"
* Dasam Granth.

This Myth of many people can also be made cleared by going through any of the compositions composed by Guru Sahib Ji. A good starting point is Guru Sahib Ji's semi autobiography, Bachittar Natak. Guru Sahib Ji says that the Almighty summoned him and said :

" I have appointed thee as my son and have created thee to propogate the Panth, spread Dharam (righteousness) and forbid the people from unwise acts.
The Panth will spread with Thine assistance. (Guru Ji replied)
For this reason the Lord sent me and I was born in this world. Whatever the Lord has spoken to me, I am saying the same to you. "
